    Simple Sakson question

At least I think it is... (although I don't seem to find the answer rightaway) What's the difference between the Sakson silver Friedrich August-medal and the bronze one? One for officers and one for NCO's and soldiers, or am I wrong there?

I might be wrong but I think the silver was for combat and the bronze
    for non-combat.

Bronze for lower enlisted, silver for nco's and junior officer/candidates I believe.

The ribbons change from peacetime to wartime.

The bronze ones were usually enlisted. The silver went to NCOs or to an enlisted man as a second award. I am sure Dave Danner can school us more. They often appear together for the Saxon fighting man. Here is one fine example. Steve

I was sure that bronze FAM was for privates and corporals and silver for up from unteroffiziers .

                From the Saxon regulations:

                1. Unteroffiziere:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
                ¨ Silberne Friedrich-August-Medaille am Bande für Kriegsdienste.<o></o>
                2. Mannschaften:<o></o>
¨ Bronzene Friedrich-August-Medaille am Bande für Kriegsdienste; für weitere hervorragende Leistungen:<o></o>
                ¨ Silberne Friedrich-August-Medaille am Bande für Kriegsdienste;<o></o>

means, enlisted ones get the bronce one, for additional Merits the silver one. NCO´s get initially the Silver one, if they have more than 20 years of Service they get immediately the Albert Cross with swords instead of the Friedrich August medal.

                Best regards

                Daniel
