To Jeff Davis,
Hello. I would like to ask you to take a moment, step back and consider what we have here. As I see it, we are looking at a case with initials and an inscription indicating that it belonged to an officer in the Imperial German Naval Airship Service along with a medal bar, Zeppelin pin and a coin (I am relying on memory because I can not locate the pictures).
It has been established beyond a doubt that this medal bar would not, could not, have been the medal bar of a World War I officer and is, at best, questionable with regard to it’s composition. Now it also appears that there is substantial doubt with regard to the case itself. Further, several reliable members have shared information regarding seemingly similar groups from a single source, Manion. Frankly, I do not understand your reluctance in letting us know where it came from. Don’t you understand that it would be helpful to your fellow collectors if you would reveal it’s source.
There are countless examples of fakes, frauds and their sources being exposed in this forum. There is even a pinned thread, “Spot on: IMPERIAL FAKES!” dedicated to this end. One of the main benefits and purposes of this forum is the sharing of such information; and I must say that I find your refusal to share the source of this group to be both counter productive and offensive.
In closing, if this group did in fact come from Manion, do not be embarrassed. You now belong to an exclusive but, sadly, very large club.
