    To Jeff Davis,

Hello. I would like to ask you to take a moment, step back and consider what we have here. As I see it, we are looking at a case with initials and an inscription indicating that it belonged to an officer in the Imperial German Naval Airship Service along with a medal bar, Zeppelin pin and a coin (I am relying on memory because I can not locate the pictures).

It has been established beyond a doubt that this medal bar would not, could not, have been the medal bar of a World War I officer and is, at best, questionable with regard to it’s composition. Now it also appears that there is substantial doubt with regard to the case itself. Further, several reliable members have shared information regarding seemingly similar groups from a single source, Manion. Frankly, I do not understand your reluctance in letting us know where it came from. Don’t you understand that it would be helpful to your fellow collectors if you would reveal it’s source.

There are countless examples of fakes, frauds and their sources being exposed in this forum. There is even a pinned thread, “Spot on: IMPERIAL FAKES!” dedicated to this end. One of the main benefits and purposes of this forum is the sharing of such information; and I must say that I find your refusal to share the source of this group to be both counter productive and offensive.

In closing, if this group did in fact come from Manion, do not be embarrassed. You now belong to an exclusive but, sadly, very large club.

      Hi,

Since the original sales thread has been deleted and some have expressed an interest in seeing the items in question I thought I should post the pictures again.

As for who the piece was bought from, this in itself should not be the kiss of death. Many dealers who sell bad items even occasionally get some good pieces, but I stil by my inital comments in the previous threads.

          Hi Gary B,

Thank you for posting the pictures. Your point, quoted above, is well put. I must admit that before I stopped dealing with Manion, I bought several minor pieces from them which were perfectly good. It was in light of the information in posts #38 and #42, that I brought up the possibility of the group under discussion as having come from Manion and, as such, having been among those mentioned.

I have been collecting Imperial German for over thirty years and can not name a dealer or auction house that has not, at least once, had a bad piece get by them. It’s just that some seem to be more knowledgeable and conscientious than others.

Some have had more bad items get by them than others and their reputations reflect that.

Jeff, unless you're a lawyer with credentials, I'd refrain from making legal threats. And I stand by my comments. Oh, and BTW, this is an open forum where we are discussing something for sale which isn't what it is advertised as. I call that scamming.

I think we have gotten as far as we can on this thread unless Jeff decides to provide more backgound info. As such I am closing it. If anyone feels they have something to add send me a pm.
                thanks
