My Newest IMPERIAL Ribbon Bar, Part Three

Let's start a new latest & greatest ribbon bar thread. Part Two is now closed. I'll start off with a BANG! Just snagged this ca. 1870-1897 ribbon bar to an officer. I think we can assume his RAO & PCO have been bumped up to Second Class. Assuming this, how many potential candidates are we talking about? The awards are:
    <br>
1870 Iron Cross, Second Class with 25 year mini Jubilee Oakleaves (!!)
An 1870/71 awarded Hohenzollern House Order, Knight's Cross with swords.
    1870/71 Kriegsdenkmunze
    Centennial Medal of 1897
Officer's Long Service Cross for 25 Years

My compliments Rick... I saw it too and tried to bid on it. In about 30 seconds the price went from USD 35.- to over USD 100.-!!! I didn't know that there were so many people interested in it. Good stuff is getting rarer and more expensive!

      Ciao,

      Claudio

Hi Claudio, I don't think it's so much that so many people want them as it is a very small group of insane people willing to pay whatever it takes to get the piece the want and/or "need"!

          Hmmmmm....

Ricky wishes to scrutinize this one in minute detail!

That looks like a 1930s catch, but only Paws On will confirm or rule that out.

The 25 device looks legit-- be aware that our Industrious Ohioan is flooding the market with 'em.

Last ribbon from color and most important, position, I'd take to be a Württemberg Friedrich Order. No Prussian long service at all. Hence no Prussian Orders.

I know of at least ONE award of a WW1 Hohenzollern 3rd with Xs to an 1870 veteran commanding a Landsturm regiment.

If this one is legit, it would be for a Hauptmann aD or maybe wartime Major aD recalled type in a similar unit.

I would want to examine the metal backing very closely: actual wartime (WW1) ones do NOT have a hole punched behind each space, which would date the backing 1920s+. (Only the newly patented detachable tabs mounts had holes in every place during WW1). If the backing dates AFTER WW1, I'd be more inclined to think this has had a probably original 1895 device added than that it was for an 1870 veteran.

Pass me those forceps, wouldja, Sam?*

The Few, The Rare, The Insane...

Todays arrivals, also check the 3. Reich "General Awards" Forum for a nasty nazi ribbon bar that qualifies as "The Holy Grail" of WW2 bars (IMO!)....

These are winging their way to California, will do better scans when they arrive. No great shakes but the bottom bar is interesting.

BTW - Love the enamel wreath on Stogies bar above!
