I do not know much about Zep badges but I don't trust any
Imperial item with that stamp on it. Here is a thread about

Hi, it is difficult to make a definate opinion on this one. Ther are points that I like and some I do not. The pictures are not great and the bidder ID's are blocked which is not a good sign ! But apart from that copy the pictures of the front of the badge and zoom in as far as you can maintaining reasonable clarity and there are certain features that do not look good. The suspension wires on the rear gondola are a partial blob rather than being clearly defined as they should be. The wires also on the front gondola should be five in number ,I can only see four(maybe the photo). I can see several pin holes which could be just the green lacquer or casting holes( these should be die struck in bronze not cast) The green lacquer seems crudely applied too, maybe to cover the casting faults????. On the good side it seems that it is shear cut but the registration has gone out (see the top rear of the laurel wreath) the tops of the leaves have been cut off quite badly,I have a simular marine example which is not so bad,I imagine they had registration problems with some of the badges they struch for some reason. Of course, this could be a casting of a ' de-registered ' piece. The pin looks OK but I think the catch is non-standard,replaced maybe. Finally, the maker mark is in fact IMO alright although the texture of the reverse ,close-up looks very ' casty ' . I have several of these Juncker badges that I am 100% comfortable with but this one I feel , is a little ' unsteady ' . This is only the second time I have seen one of these Juncker with a green finish,make of that what you will. Ferg1.

Yes, and I hope no-one from here got it. The seller seems to have an endless supply of "questionable" items. I think he's offered 3 or 4 Gold Naval WBs in the last few months alone!

Extreme caution must be used with these.
Very few were made in the first place and many of those were lost/buried/destroyed or still remain in collections/museums/families in Europe-where they have resided for over 50 years or more.
About 15 years ago a professional faker in California had over 1,000 of these made-just like this one. I was offered 25 of them (!) in 1995 at $50 each by someone who knew I was no imperial expert . I know that several East coast dealers sold them off at medal shows.
In addition there were @500 (maybe more) made in the 1960s by a german firm and more were made in the UK in the 1970s-and those were almost perfect. i remember hearing Malcolm Fisher at a Gun Show in london in 1977 talking about how even he was fooled (initially).
Weights and dimensions should be used and start assuming it's a fake with these (like the tank badge). These are worth so much that they were and are worth faking (and doing a good job) to the conmen.

Yep, I' ve handled several fake examples of the Juncker luftschiffer badge,they were all spun cast and very good at that !! The finish was wrong though and once an original by this maker has been handled it is clear to see the difference. Usually too the berrys on the top laurel wreath have the odd casting blow hole. Also the pin detail is copied very well but has a sort of unused awkward feel to it ,difficult to explain but I am sure people know what I mean!! But in general dangerous ........
