How did they wear a medal bar on this uniform?

This isa question to which I think I used to know the answer, but I cannot for the life of me recall the answer.

I was looking at an Imperial German tunic. Instead of loops where a ribbon bar or a medal bar would have been worn, it seemed to have lines of thread sewn horizontally. If you were looking at the tunic, to the right of the buttons there was a short length of thread, then a gap, then a longer length of thread.

So how exactly did they wear medals or ribbons on such a set-up?

which German state?
I think it might be possible that he wore the medals on Austrian style triangular ribbons.
The Württembergians for example wor also Austrian style triangels or the Saxons had sometimes a kind of pentagonal ribbons.

I have the uniform on loan, and I'll try to post a scan of it. I'm really not certain whose uniform it is. It is field gray, with a tall, closed sollar. It lacks shoulder boards or straps. The tunic is piped on the cuffs and down the front in golden yellow, the color used in the Third Reich for Cavalry. The back of the tunic is also piped on the skirt in golden yellow, and it has somewhat long collar tabs in the same color. The buttons are plain silver color buttons with no markings on the back. There are no labels or markings of any kind that I can find in the tunic. Perhaps it is not Imperial but Reichsheer. I had my own theory as to what it might be but I have not had the chance to check it out.
