      Hi Greg,

Thank you for the welcome. I actually have a few other EKs as well; a 1914 EK1, 1914 EK2, 1914 EK2 (single piece construction variant), a 1939 EK2 and an 1870 EK2 in the mail to me now.

      Tony,

Thanks for the good information. However, unless I am seeing things the obverse is indeed "stepped". Please see the image below. In my second image, which is of the reverse, you can see that it is not stepped, but is flat. You can also see the wide gap between the reverse core and the silver frame.

      Cheers,

          1813

Hi, Tim here, guess youy could call me "new" I was a member many years ago, but work etc saw me spending less and less time collecting. Back now, and will add my 1813 to the pile:

Tim, that doc is knocking my socks off. Could we get more scans of it? Looks like a relation of von Hindenburg.

                  Very nice citation!!!

The correct and complete Name of the Reichskanzler was "Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg"

Those officers had served in the prussian army (Ranklist 1806 bis 1827)

                  Beneckendorf, Major v.
                  Beneckendorf, Premierleutnant v.
                  Beneckendorff und v.Hindenburg, Stabscapitän v.
                  Beneckendorff, Major v.
                  Beneckendorff, Major v.
                  Benkendorff, Major v.

Hindenburg is a small town in poland, former east silesia.

I'm sure they have been ralatives around some cormer and the name was modified oder misspelled in teh years.

What a GREAT set !! Having an original 1813 award doc is amazing
but for me, the star is the cross. I really like the early multi-piece
frame and the very heavy rope like beading.

and another: this doc is similar to the one in the Iron Time, with cross, which looks like a two piece iron construction (with a chunk missing. I believe this to be a 1st issue piece issued prior to 1820, as the iron centres were prone to cracking, but happy to hear anyone's opinion.
Where the lower arm piece is missing, looks to be possibly some sort of glue, maybe an old atempt at repair?

Hey Greg, Yep, it is a beauty, actually both are in their own way, but the heavy beading is my Fav for sure.
