                    Hallo Leibhusar,

the name of the only officer with a noble name is Rühle von Lilienstern.

From this famous Prussian family in WWI came 1914 a Hauptmann who was temporary leading the Inf. Rgt. 134 in France in Oct 1914.

In WWII there was 1943 a Generalleutnant Hans Rühle von Lilienstern who was the Wehrersatz - Inspektor in Königsberg/East Prussia.

Sorry, an other correction: the name in the 2nd line is Kipke (not Kyske).

                          Gerdan,

Is one of the names missing on the bottom row or is the General only identified by the initial?

                          Chip

                            All,

What you have here is a grouping of Foot Artillery officers. Erler and Wirth were in FußAR 15, Hüllmann was an instructor at the Fußart. Schießschule, Kipke was a post-May 1914 Leutn. in the Garde FußAR. There were three officers named Rühle von Lilienstern, all in foot artiullery regiments. I can't find anyone named Lentzen. Still, all Foot artillery officers. So, the next step is to figure out who the General is.

After combing the 1914 list, I believe he is Gen.Maj. Georg Kipping. He was promoted to Gen. Maj. on 18.08.1917 while serving as the Artillery Depot Inspekteur (Berlin), as position normally held by foot artillery officers. Also, he was awarded the Bavarian Militär Verdienstorden, 2. Kl. with swords on 31.05.1916. I believe that is the neck order seen in the photo.

Based on this, the photo was taken after 18.08.1917, when he was promoted to Gen. Maj.

If you have the Bradley series "Die Generale des Heeres 1921-1945", check out volume 6, page 461 for another picture of Kipping and his career.

                            A very nice photograph.
