    WW1 Tank Badge

OK, I searched the previous threads on WW1 tank badges, and I don't think there were definite conclusions on some of the "questionable" badges shown. So I am posting photos of one I recently picked up. Is this badge made between 1921, when the tank badge was authorized, and 1945?

Thanks for any input on this...Tom

          Hope this helps...Tom

I personally like it. By the weight it is definately hollow and the design is a known one by Juncker I believe.

Oh, it is hollow all right. I am hoping others agree with you, as I got this in a trade just last week. I have always wanted a WW1 tank badge. This one originally came from a rather renown old time collector/dealer in the northern Illinois area. This guy is personally credited with picking up numerous original Knights Crosses, numbered assault badges and Heer para badges during his long career of collecting. He never kept the medals and badges, though, as he had other collecting interests...Tom

I like what I see there as well......especially the back.

There were very few recipients of that badge, but many firms appear to have been able to make it.

I think we will never know exactly which ones were made in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s or after.

With these badges, I think you have to rely on gut feeling and the general quality of construction.

On that basis, I would quite readily accept that that badge could have been made pre-1945.

Robin, if you really want to be nice you would show yours. I never get tired of seeing it personally.

That's a great badge Brian. I think the 'Mayhem' thread was a classic.

As a point of interest......there's a photo in the recent Saris 'Headgear Vol. 4' book showing a Waffen-SS officer (mid-ranking) wearing this badge. It's only the fourth photo I've seen of the badge actually being worn (discounting all those showing Obersepp).
