    Opinions On EK1

I've had this EK for a few months now and haven't seen a set up on the rear like this before. I know there are variations on these crosses but this one is of Third Reich demensions. What does everyone think? Is it OK?

        Hi Steve,

I don't see any problems with the obverse but to me the catch/catchplate assembly is definitely a repair/replacement and I think the main pin, based on the unusual colour, may also a replacement. There are some examples which have pins like this, so there's a chance the pin may be original but heavily ?polished/cleaned.

        Regards

That seems to be the concensus, that it's a repair or replacement. Could have been worse I guess. Thanks.

It is a 1939 replacement piece - the hinge and pin are classic Zimmerman. The catch is replaced.

              Marc,

Sorry but imo you need to look closer. 1939 Godet/Zimmermann pins are nowhere near that wide or show tat much taper. The way the pin is attached to the hinge is also different - on this example there are two barrel segments mounted directly onto the badge (ov via a very thin hingeplate), very different to the 1939 Godet/Zimmermann upright box type hinge.

                Mike,
Indeed, you are right now that I look harder at it - an angled look would have made my initial reaction moot. Still, doesn't the shape of the obverse look more 1939?
