    Whatinheck did I buy?

Finally got my 'Gold Eisernes Kreuz' from Germany.
But darned if I can figure out what it is, other than the seller saying 'Mecklenburg-Schwerin' (I posted earlier, but without photos). This piece is about the same size as an EK...
Seller also placed emphasis on the u's not having the two little dots on top...??? Would this mean it is a fake" Anyhow, this little sucker just screamed 'I need a home', so I probably paid way too much as well.....

Any info at all would be most appreciated!

    Best Regards,

    Phil

              No Expert But...

Phil - this is the Mechlenburg-Schwerin Militarerdienstkreuz, 2. Klasse. It is an Iron Cross 2. Klasse equivalent awarded by the sovereign Grand Duke of Mechlenburg-Schwerin in Northern Germany. This cross was generally awarded for reasons similar to the EKII and was awarded to all ranks as was the Iron Cross. Unfortunately, I can not attest to the authenticity of the cross you have posted but I'm sure others will be of help to you there.

                PS

Dated side with crown and "FF" is the obverse.

                  pps

That should have read Mechlenburg-Schwerin Militarverdienstkreuz, 2. Klasse. (Heaven only know where that pesky "v" went the first time...

It's Mecklenburg-Schwerin, with a "k". The MVK is equivalent to the EK2 in its place in the awards system of the Grand Duchy, not its rarity. Like the Iron Cross, it was awarded without regard to rank and was the basic award of the state. But Mecklenburg-Schwerin is much smaller than Prussia. I'm not sure of the actual numbers awarded, though.
