    I've been sniped!!!

    Sniper!!!

On ebay I actually find a medal that looks legit w/document. And it's taken from me in, literally, the last seconds.

It was a Ernst Ludwig medal (actually a pin) and the award document. I've wanted one for amost ten years now. And here it was the medal w/ the award document. Looked great and going very cheap, but notheless I had a high bid for any last minute runs at it.
Out of nowhere. Didn't bid before in the history. This b*****d plucks it down. And his name.... Hemingwaylover....

I hope that's not anyone's handle on ebay...I like everyone here.

I guess it's fair...but I just had to vent. It just doesn't seem "straight-up honest" to shoot like he did.

Ya know, I have been sniped so many times on ebay, I dont even bid on an item anymore without sniping it myself now. It just seems to be the way things have gone on ebay these days...

First things first , it is not fair. I call it legal theft. I lost a medal the other day in the last seconds and took the time to contact the buyer and tell him how disgusted i was with him. Ebay is supposed to be an auction site , a fair and honest place to buy used goods but lately it has become a sniping ground and marketplace for retailers. Sniping should be banned. Recently i had a spell of people sniping my goods for sale and decided to ad some text to my adverts saying that if no bids were made within an hour of sale ending goods will be removed from auction.

You can always buy your own sniper software on ebay. http://search.ebay.ca/search/search....ware&category0=

I guess he wanted it more than you?

            We've all felt it.

I had three copies of the 1928 published book "Tamerlane: the Earth Shaker" sniped from me. I wanted that book about the infamous Turkish-Mongol warlord for so long, but I wasn't willing to pay more than $15 for it. As far as I can tell, there were exactly three guys who would pay more, and did. I got the fourth for $12.

What can you say? If they want it that bad and are willing to pay more, even paying any price, that's what the auction is for. It's good for the seller.

last month I wanted a k98 off Gunbroker.com. I watched it for 4 days and the price kept creeping up to the buy it now. I thought that sooner or later somebody would figure it out that it would only be alittle more to buy it now anyway and seal the deal. The auction still had a day left and was already about 70% of the buy it now price. So I bought it straight up. The last thing I need is to lose something nice because I thought I could get it cheap.

Perhaps it isn't as sporting, but if it's good and YOU want it bad enough, you're gonna have to back it up and suck it up with $$$.

If you are still mad, think of it this way. With all the fakes on eBAy, a whole lot of sniper's snipe on fake stuff. You might say they get what they deserve.

If you really wanted it you would have bid higher. Hate the game, not the player.

I agree with Don 100%. Know your limit and set that as your maximum bid. Even with the snipe program you have to set a maximum bid.

So either way, whether you are sniped or not, someone wants it worse than you

Actually, the odd is not good either for snipers.

one time, I was bidding on a jet pilot helmet (A must have helmet!).
I set sniped 15 seconds to countdown. To my surprise, it was outbidded.
Panic, I reset the browser, re-enter the new price .... but it was
                    way too late.... ... .....

                        Claudius,

In his defense, he did a good thing. Look at what else he won a couple of days ago.

Your desired medal belonged to the same group of Adolf Strauss that some inconsiderate money making vendor broke up to make more money. This guy put back together a very impressive Hessian group with 4 wartime documents. Sure I wanted them too but when I lost out to him on the first group, I didn't even go for the second group hoping that it would stay together and it did. 50 years from now it may still be together. Just thought I would let you know the whole story. And no I don't know him. Steve

After you have had enough bad sniping experiences, you will find that it is better to join than fight. There are free sniping programs to be had and they work great. Sniping is no guarantee, but I do think that it helps in those cases where someone else is trying to get a bargain and when they find they have been outbid it is too late to take another stab at it. The main reason I snipe is that I don't want to put in my bid and have everyone who knows my ebay name to be checking out what I am bidding on. Putting an early bid in is like advertising the item you are interested in. So for things that I am really serious about, I always snipe.

totally agree with Don...ebay is an auction site and on-line auctions run until the last second of a pre-determined fixed time and not until the last buyer has made up his mind...my recommendation is always to bid as much as you are willing to pay for an item as early as possible and if you get the item for less great, and if you get outbid then it was not going to be and that is that....well, at least that is how I buy items on ebay...can't be bothered with sniping and watching items every 5 mins...just have a look at it, place your bid and wait to see if you get the 'you have won' email from ebay... Cheers, Torsten.
