    1914 and 1870 EK1 Copies

I'm not sure when these were made, but I seriously doubt they were made prior to 1945. The photo is of a 1914 EK1 copy. The quality of the frame, the assembly and the metal is very poor. A seller named Charbador on eBay and Epier(jim20@flash.net aka Sehr-Gut-Handler) has been selling more than one of what appears to be the same badge (same cheesy frame, same pin, same brass catch) only with an 1870 core. The pins on Charbador's badges are stamped with a G and he has represented them as Godet's or Godet "Jubilee" pieces. I don't think so....... The G on the 1870 "copies" looks nothing like the G's used on 1914 Godet's, much less 1870's. In my opinion, these 1914 and 1870 EK1's are junk. Don't be fooled or ripped off.
Any other comments or observations are welcome.

Note that on the back of the pin, there appears to be a "G" which looks like the G used on the fake 1870 "Godet's".

    Hi,

yes, thats a fake! Note the assembling of the pinback and the maker mark, which looks like a "3" and the bad "G". The crown on the iron core looks very strange too and I've never seen a catch made from brass on a silver or silver-plated frame. Only on full-brass EKs.

Greetings and a happy new year!!!

      Greetings Doug

That particular 1914 looks very suspicious to me, the makers mark on the pin defiantly looks like a 3 to me,I have never seen a mark like this for Godet, maybe the fakers are using the same pin for more than one type of piece or cross? The pin looks all wrong to me as well, I have never heard of a mixed metal piece as well. Charbador is a known peddler of repo crap on both ebay and epier, check his feedback rating for all his happy customers. If you look though the old messages on the Wehrmacht Awards forum, you will see this pimp has been talked about more than once and the opinions about him is unanimous. FAKER.. Last time I checked epier he was selling stainless steel 1939 Iron Crosses with the makers mark of 50 on the pin. Let the buyer beware that all the junk this guy is selling is nothing but junk.

      Hope this helps.

        Dezz,
Sorry if I wasn't clear. The copy or fake EK pictured here is a 1914, with a 3 on the pin. The G also appears on the back of the pin. The fake 1870's sold by Jim20 (Charbador) are exactly like this one, only with 1870 on the core and a G on the front of the pin.
Godet did use a G on the pin on some 1914's, but I've never seen a G on an 1870, and their G typeface was not like the one on the fakes. That's the first thing that tipped me off.
This particular example was even flame or acid aged (I cleaned off some of the fake "patina").

i'd especially like to see what the problem is
          with the Godet "G".

          many thanks!

I was interested in these pics too Joe, so I second that request.

If it's the 1914 marked 'G' you're talking about, an interesting thread started here 1914 EK1 marked 'G' a while back, but interest has...er.....let's say tapered off!!

            Maybe you've already seen it...

            Regards
