Stijn--do you mean "2nd Class" the Commander garde, or Knight-2nd Class? Peacetime or wartime with swords? Gold or gilt?

If you've seen the recent German price guide "Bibles," I've found actually selling prices to be higher, oddly enough.

Spink has one for GBP 220.
See the thread "hot off the presses" in the main section.

        Stijn:
According to Sidney Vernon's 1995 book, which I find approximately correct for auction sales: a 2nd class Knight's version is $250.00; with swords, $200.00; swords on ring-RARE; Oakleaves and swords $450.00; oakleaves only- $250.00.
        Cheers,

Me too, especially the pre-1914 solid gold ones!!!!!! In fact, I'll give you $300. I can-t understand why folks pay $3,000-$5,000 for an unidentified, stamped out 1939 Knights Cross and the Zahringer Lion awards bring less than 20%-25% of that. There is absolutely no comparison in old-world craftsmanship and materials.

Count me in for a baker's dozen! I'll even shell out the extra dough for those silly oak leaves and the funny 'swords-on-the-ring' versions!

Doug, ssssshhhhhh! Don't give those 'other' guys any funny ideas.

might I draw your attention to ebay# 1173707124? Also #1169987052-that bar admittedly had been fiddled, but the medal looked real to me and others when we discussed it.
I was recently offered one for $110 up here in the Great White North, but declined as my years' budget is now tapped out (all that great stuff at Lowell, Rick).
                Cheers,
                JeMc

                  HELLO,
Can you guys post some pictures? Some of us drink while we check out this forum! It must be a yankee thing, right?

This is a pre-war solid gold (bith yellow and red gold) example, with oakleaves. It might go for a wee bit more than $250
