Before my "time," but that type mounting looks original to the period (1860s) from the few-- the very few-- I have seen and handled from the 1830s-60s. (Which is why so few medals that old HAVE their original ribbons! )

The 1813 Iron Cross guys can address that part.

      Hi Ed,

From the 1st impression I like it. With this style You can never know it definetly. Of course the ribbons need a deeper view. All the old ribbons from that time should be really smooth and silky.
It is a good possible combo of an old Soldier/NCO. (If officer I would expect a Long service award and a Red Eagle Order)
It is the typical "2nd type" medal bar style. Ribbons are sewn over a metal frame, not the later solid metal plate. Made in 1863 after the award of the jubilee medal and only worn some years. This guy was in his 70ies as he got his last dec.
The EK looks like a private purchased one. So nothing had to be returned to the Orders Chancellary.

      Best regards

      Daniel

        It's Real!

Real deal, appropriate 1840-1870 style Prinzen-Grosse format. A nice set currently on offer from one of the transplanted german dealers. You can trust Andreas, he's paid his dues and is very knowledgeable. I have never seen a questionable item offered by him, and frankly, that's saying a lot..........
