    Pour le Merite--older repro?

I'd like to share this Pour le Merite I've had for at least 20 years or so. I purchased it as a copy, but the seller had only the one and I've not seen a similar example. Can anyone tell me the possible maker and/or vintage? The enamel is a lighter blue than I believe used prior to 1918, and the enameling is good quality. The metal is gold plated but I cannot tell what the base metal is. The ribbon stripes appear to be silver or silver plated metallic thread because there is a bit of tarnishing.
    Thanks for your input!

      It is a beauty.

I am always looking for high quality repros to use for display in my case and on tunics. I hate using cheap, poor quality PlMs on tunics that are real.

        PLM

        Thanks Charles,
Do you have any idea of the possible vintage or maker, perchance?
I'm looking for an original, but this was one of the nicest copies I've found in a long time.
If you want to sell any of your Feldgrau uniforms, please let me know! They're tough to come by!

Richthofen's PLM - what happened to it? I only ask because there was a programme on the box last night about his demise at the hands of an Aussie Vickers gunner, and it got me wondering about the eventual location of his Max - and his other awards. Any ideas?

            PLM

Any info that can be provided about this piece would be very helpful--I think it's too well made to be an absolute repro by a non European maker, but I don't know.
            Thanks in advance,
            Erich

              Rothe & Cie.?

Perhaps of Austrian origin? Just a haphazard guess.

I had one like this at one time. Looked identical other than mine was a single-sided version. There is a picture in Hammelmann's PLM book of the piece and I believe it said the origin was German.
My single sided version didn't have the Gesch Gesch or what ever on the back .

                  Thanks Daniel,
more information is always welcome! I don't have a copy of the book in question, so did not know that!

It is a nice looking piece. The shape of the eagles' heads and the tails is quite distinctive-- I've never seen this kind either.

My only thought would be if this bears no hallmarks, it is probably post-WW2. The Weimar/Third Reich duplicates etc that I have seen were always silver-gilt. Silver was no big deal back then and was the expected wearing copy material.

Without a hallmark, it must be some base metal.

A question about this... I have a person selling one of these PLMs basically across the street from me. It looks just like that one there for $60... is this a good price(i.e. Should I buy it?)

                      Regards

                      Chris

I would think that is an excellent price for a better quality PLM like these. I don't know of any decent copies currently available (as copies, that is!).
