    Multi-Frame 1813 EK2

    Gents,
My latest and greatest. A simply stunning multi-frame construction 1813 EK2 with a cracked, stepped core. Hinge has obviously been repaired, and I think it is a great job. The ribbon is frail as a moth's wings. The striking is deep and crisp. I hope you all enjoy her as much as I do.
    Marc

PS - thanks to he who was there for me and struck the deal. Much appreciated. You know who you are...

Note - as the ribbon is folded over so the 1813 side is the reverse, as first stipulated, and as this is a multi-frame piece, I believe it to be manufactured prior to April 1838 when the decree to have the 1813 on the obverse was made. Further, since this is not a wide-flange cross I believe it to be made before 1834.

Could we get a close-up showing the multi part construction?

                  Some closeups:

                  Here is the crown:

Here is the core. Very typically cracked core:

The repaired/replaced eyelet. Note the seam on the left:

Here is the seam - unlike a 1914 EK2, for example, these are not two frames that are joined together, but are multiple segments placed on the core.

Just for fun here is the prinzen again. Note the very high crown and great detail. A nice match for the prinzen on page 75 in Bowen. The regular EK2 is very much like page 73 of Bowen.

Slight lifting to the frame at the core:

                    Very high 3-D crown:

                      Great pictures Marc,

It looks as if all the pieces were fit together and then soldered. Is there any evidence of any posts or pegs helping to align the pieces?

Greg, I am afraid that seems somewhat of an understatement. Marc, show your "family" photo again, now with the eras all covered.

first pictures i've seen outside of a
book of the '13 multi-piece frame
                          construction.

                            You bought another one???

                            That's it--I'm calling Bernhagen...

(Excellent piece though--the crack's hardly noticeable!)

                              Tony - still need a 1957....

Gaffken - what you talking about? That's a standard size and a prinzen - eminently different. Right? Now I need an EK1...
