Here's the back. I'm wondering whether they printed up a specific envelope for each Cross, the way the documents were made for specific presentation to Parents or Widows?

That was like that in the documents! I didnt know that they even distinguished in the description on the envelope!

I don't recall seeing an award packet for any of the Hindenburg Crosses. I have seen them all cased, but this is the first packet I have seen. Have I just been blind? Mike

The cross is marked HKM on the reverse of the lower arm, and has a Stuttgart maker's stamp on the packet.

RE: The Packets

I believe the crosses were issued in the packets, or in a plain folded wrapper, similar to field-issue EK's. The cases we see are private-purchase items that could be bought with, or without a cross. I have to dig through a pile of paper, but I actually have an advertisement for the cases! Also, if you check Rittmeister's website, he had a cased cross for sale, with the same advertisement.
