    Engraved Bavarian Observer Badge

This time around the subject is a Bavarian badge with one strange attribute: instead of the normal type of attachment of the enamel device, this one consists of a single domed rivet. I have never seen a similar example before. Anybody?

P.S. The color of the enamel is actually more orangeish than depicted.

Engraving reads, 'Mit Sicherem Augen den Feind Erkennen "Hals und Beinbruch" .'

It has a few dings on the obverse.

Nope, I've never seen the rivet instead of the weak tab-overs either. Same swirly sort of "tomato soup" pinkish red as mine.

Is your plain backed badge SOLID? I don't see any vent holes, and the back on yours shows a lot of hand finishing. Your cross atop the crown is much better defined than mine. Your bow ends at the bottom each have three distinct "toes" where mine are more "duck feet" webbed. Any other differences?

I'd say the rivet on yours is an improvement-- which would perhaps indicate a later, 1930s version? That seems to hold for replacement Bavarian Military Merit Crosses, swords rivetted on instead of screw and nut fasteners.

Pure speculation--- we're learning as we go!
