A question regarding your Prussian war help cross => is there somwhere a maker mark to be found on the cross ?

+ some info along the lines regarding this cross, did you know that it is wrongly mounted !!!!!!! ( your cross shows its reverse ) but do not worry as this is commonly encountered

Yes, there are often single letters like "F" on the upper suspension where the ring goes into the KHDKreuz. What they mean, I have no clue. And yup, 9 out of 10 jhave the nice design "reverse" mounted like this to the front.

Your man entered Prussian army or Imperial navy (what color is the backing cloth) service after 1896 (no 1897 Centenary Medal), and probably after 1899-- no 40 Years Serbvice wreath on the 25 Cross. Because the War Effort (KHDK) Cross was given to all ranks, and there are no other awards as "clues," no way to tell if he was a senior NCO level, or a colonel level.

We are always glad to get Converts to The Light-- especially when we have Reverts to The Dark Side!

Rick the backing is blue with a very odd pin, not the standard ones I am used to on my other long service awards

Stijn - thanks for pointing that out, as a recent half convert I have no idea on Imperial awards or the way they are suppossed to be displayed etc.

It is not with me at the moment as I am at work, I will have to have a look & see if the cross is marked
