    My days of Jubilee.

My collection, especially it's Baden dimention, has been growing with quite a speed this year and this week has been filled with many accomplishments. So I'm going to tell you my dear friends about my two days of jubilee.

I've been studying like hell for about one year to reach a goal. To study Geography at Turku University. I've spent these past two semesters studying the subject at an open university and now that it's ended, I can honestly say that I have learned much. I have made new friends, learned about vast opportunities and put my skills and assets to good use. The grades have been good and some even borderline excellent! All of the work that I have put in, culminated this tuesday as I had an entrance exam to Turku University from 9.00 in the morning till midday. First I had a trouble finding the damned lecture-hall and I go in all nervous with really fast pulse. When the exam starts and the 3 hours starts to tick away, I'm still nervous as hell. I read the questions through quickly and find myself thinking; "I have no idea what to answer, what are these farking questions???!".

After a few minutes of panic and hastily formed lousy answers, I calm down. And all of a sudden It all comes back to me. "I've been studying this stuff for a FARKING YEAR! I know precisily what to answer!" After that the writing just begins to flow and write and write for the entire 3 hours untill the time runs out. I managed to answer all the questions and I felt that I've even answered most of them correctly. I still tremble a bit when I go down the stairs of the big hall to deliver my papers. Once I walk out of that chaimber, I begin to breathe deeply and suddenly I'm thinking: "I'VE DONE IT!! IT'S OVER!!! JIIHAA!!!"

I will know the results and weither I will pass or not in early July, but for now my good gut-feeling is all I need. In preparation to the end of year of reading, I had planned something that would make the day even more jubilant. It arrived in the post a week early so I had to restrain myself untill that day and keep it in it's postal package. After the exam, I began driving towards home with my folks who where there to visit my sister who works at the Uni. On the way I stopped by at a collectors house to see him and finally open the parcell with fellow collector. Once there, I asked for something edged and I opened it.

There are only a handfull of the those rare moments when you can feel that you have truly accomplished and earned something. I can still remember Ralphs thread years ago where he talked about an RK feeling. I can't describe what I felt when I saw this wonderfull beign of beauty in my hands, but I can tell you that It was a wonderfull feeling. Gold, blue enamel, fabilous chraftmannship by Wagner.. Oh my. One of 6373, In my hands. YEAH!

My second day of Jubilee came is today. It arrived via post naturally. As any serious collector should know, there isn't anything better than an award that you can tie to a name, a place in history or even a face. Groupings that have all this are rare indeed and even more expensive. There are only a few awards in the history of warfare that can offer a name and a place in history by themselves. A single act or continues acts of bravery by Unteroffizier Albert Koger of Landwehr Artillerie Regiment 12 during the cold days in december of 1917 in Galicia made him one of the 1282 who earned this prestigeous award during WW1. Fur Badens Ehre. Those words carried a heavy burden and included great deeds. For some of us those words still merit high respect towards the men who fought and died defending their country. Not one of the awards that we collect are just pieces of metall, nor are they just materials chrafted into different forms. They have within them the life stories of men and women who lived, fought and died. The awards that we collect are their legacys. That is true from most common EK2 to the most rare Grand Cross.
    Thank you for your time.

congratulations are in order for the pieces you've found,
but even moreso because of your appreciation of what they
      represent!

i have little doubt that you will be successful in gaining
      entrance to Turko.

if you display one fifth the enthusiasm there that you
demonstrate here, i am certain you will achieve great things!!

best of luck and best regards!

Thank you for your kind words. I can honestly say that my collection wouldn't be the same without the help and co-operation of some very fine people here.

..And my Prussian display. I had intended to place the chain in the Baden section, but it will never fit in. Besides, the Johanniter orden is Prussian, so there is no conflict. Thanks again for your kind words and enjoy.

                        Hi Antti,

My compliments for your beautiful additions to your growing collection!

You did the right thing from the beginning: focusing on a special theme. Not like me when I had your age...

It can only get better... I really enjoy seeing your collection. What is next: a Baden medal bar? That would look cool in your collection.

                        un abbraccio,

                        Claudio
