        Hi Jacques !

This is a very, very good picture of a (former) Austro-Hungarian officer ! WOW !
And he seemed to be very proud of his "Sturmtrupp"-badge, because usually it was not worn in WW2.

        Kind regards,

        Peter

            Welcome to the forum.

This is one of the most commonly faked badges. I would suggest that
you send a private message to forum member Chip M. He has probably more experience with these than anyone else on the forum.

Here is a link to his contact info.----

Well, there are better experts than I on this subject. I can tell you however, that this design normally has a letter "G" under the chin of the skull. This is the initial of the manufacturer, Gürschner. The manufacturer info is also stamped into the reverse side. There is a collector in Italy that has a nice collection of these and none are made from brass or any "Buntmetall". The pin on the reverse of this one is also suspect. I suppose, seeing this 1940s photo, that badges might have continued to be made in the inter-war and wartime periods. Nothing is known of these, if they existed.

Here is a link to an earlier thread on the subject.

rsp. the link, there are good pieces with and without "G"?!
My first doubt is based on the teeth, I only saw this kind of bagdes with toothspaces. What do you think about this point.

                regards torrian

Yes, according to one expert there are variations. However, as mentioned, WWI era examples that are known to be original are of the Gürschner type. Any others are unverified. Personally, if I were wanting a WWI example, I would go for a known type.
