    Overdyed Blumentarn

Can anybody tell me about Blumentarn uniform pieces that have been overdyed with black and had the gray buttons replaced with black ones? I've got a late 1960s jacket and a 1962 FJ jacket that both had this done to them. I've also seen a couple of on eBay recently.

The two possibilities I can think of is someone overdying them after 1990 in an attempt to make them more sellable (I've seen this done to Belgian and other items) or it was done before 1990 for some specific purpose.

    Any information about this?

      Hi Nico!

Do you mean by the guards? How common was this practice? Do you know what years it took place?

Hi Steve, I do not know about this practice, but I guess that Nico means that these were used as work clothing for prison inmates. Could you send some pics of it please? Cheers, Torsten.

I have a set of very early stricktarn fallschrimjager pants, that look to have been overdyed black and have the black buttons. This is the model with the large flap in the front. They are still in great shape, with the stamps still readable. It looks like someone had tried to wash the black dye out but they are now much darker than normal.

I don't have any photos available now unfortunately.

There is a very good thread on removing tunics dyed black with a dye remover that has remarakable results on the whermacht uniforms subfourm .they have been dicussing this the last few days. If dyed before 1990 by the east germans would be it's true historical value.

They were used by the inmates, as the Guards had their "Real" Uniforms and Work Clothing. We found some of them at the Attic Storage of the Rummelsburg Prison but they're all gone, I just have some Blues left with yellow and green Stripes. On the Winter Suit's they just painted them on with a Brush.

                Dyed Blumentarn uniforms

I was given this uniform by a Leutnant in the Luftabwehr.
He wore this very jacket in the 70s as workclothing.
He told me these we old uniforms dyed black and after several turns in the washer the old colour reappeared.
Nice detail on this one is the name tag on the bottom.
