We could have a poll, "Ugliest Combat Helmet of All Time". I'd vote for the Danish M-23 or maybe the USN "Talker".

The Swiss M18 is kind of ugly too. I agreeabout the Danish helmet however. That is not a nice looking one.

I actually like the Swiss - I think it has a nice Medieval/Renaissance look to it.
(Seems better thought out than the German M-16 also, shorter skirt in the back for firing from prone, sloping front for better ballistic performance, vent holes placed in the rear quarter where few hits occur.)

the East German helmet certainly is not the best looking of all the helmets, but then again, that is not what it was designed for... Cheers, Torsten.

and here is a pic of me wearing one (front row far right in the pic)...

Well, again we're dealing with personal opinions, but I don't think the DDR helmet is that bad looking It's far better looking that some others.........and besides, the great looking uniforms more than make up for it.

It's nice you have that photo, Torsten. I spent nearly 13 years in the US Army and I don't believe I have any photos of myself in uniform except for a few school graduation group photos.

As you will know from other threads here, I do not have that many photographs of me in uniform either... well, at the time you do not think of it as being anything special and afterwards, it is too late... Cheers, Torsten.

I would have a question regarding helmet liners' markings... we know that 1st Roman figures were used ; they stood for the semester of manufacture... were they replaced by Arabic figures later like in clothes ? I do not remember seeing Arabic figures printed on leather liners... can anyone confirm ?
Here is a pivture that illustrates the matter : P is a very late year... though the Roman IV. is still used...
