I consider this Generalmajor's uniform to be my best acquisition of 2009,
mainly due to the fact that it's the highest ranking
(and also the most expensive) uniform I've ever owned.

      Genossen,
I must say that 2009 was one of the best collecting years I have yet had.
On the top of the list I must say it is a tie between my dark collar Grenztruppen officer's parade tunic, and my two MPi-KM kits.

Then there is this find. It is a color piped infantry officers parade tunic. The date is hard to make out, but it appears to be 1956.
Thats not the only part that makes it so interesting though. the collar stands up a bit- former Wehrmacht perhaps?

I did get several other nice items this past year as well that I for technical issues cannot get up right now, but they include a dark collar officers service tunic in my size (border guard of course), and a 1968 dated Luftstreitkraefte senior officers parade tunic with cuffbars.

And I can't forget my Steal of the Year, my 1957 dated infantry offcers side cap, which cost me One Euro

        Scaling back collecting of everything....

for space limitation reasons, but in 2009 I did manage to pic up a handful of DDR produced Carl Zeiss Jena binos including these premium armoured 12x50B Dodecarems....

Hello Mõmmi - Do you know which general wore the tunic?

Thanks for posting your 2009 find.

Dave - Are there any markings on the inside cap?

                Hi Ralph,

Sadly I have no idea who the uniform belonged to - as with most DDR items, it was sold as an unnamed example.
(On a slightly humorous note: Whoever the original owner was, he seems to have had rather shaky hands, judging by the stain below the right breast.
I guess Genosse Generalmajor had some difficulty keeping his favourite alcoholic beverage from spilling onto his tunic. )

I know there was a guy from the North in the 90s, who purchased materials to make NVA uniforms for Generals (caps etc.).

He made NVA General's uniforms after 1989. That is the reason, why a lot of never worn items are still on the market today.

I remember, I met him on a market and he gave me his catalogue. He asked me: 'How many uniforms of NVA Generals do you need?'.

                  Unnamed examples...

Some of the DDR Civilian articles of memorabilia are treasure troves.

Your Ampelmännchen light fixture is one such example. It is an excellant addition to any collection. I've always been an Ampelmännchen from the very first trip to East Berlin when I first saw and noticed the difference in their pedestrian crossing lights.

                        You did well in 2009.

Tak Tochno Genossen, Moscow Centre is giving "Admiring Glances" over that Scale of Issue, it is just so juicy..

Christophe did you buy any border signs for your new DDR collection?

                              Hi Bryan,

                              Not yet. Still chasing one...

                              Cheers.

                                Thanks Bryan,

That one was a "Bugger" to locate and acquire. It was particularly frustrating, since it was the only remaining example I needed to complete the set of color-piped officer visor hats.

I felt like those two buzzards talking to one another on a tree branch in the desert ..... "Patience my ass, I'm going to kill something."
