Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

Thank you Johann for posting the link to your DDR bandsmen photos, they are great. That is quite the collection of photographs that you have there! There surely must have been quite a few less Warrant Officers in the music corps because it is almost impossible to find photos of them. It seems like every photo I see of bandsmen are always either EM or NCO.

Surely someone else must have some info or pics they would like to contribute. The one thing that still amazes me about my tunic is the quality of the stitching that was used to attach the collar tabs/sleeve patch/swallows nests. They are all sewn in such a way as that the stitching isn't visible once the items are attached to the tunic. I don't know if this is a characteristic of most bandsmens tunic, or something unique to mine. I did photograph the few times musicians are mentioned in the 1986 uniform regs and perhaps I can get them posted. Maybe one of our German speaking members could help us with the spirit of the regs, even if they weren't always strictly adhered to in practice.

I do have some questions for a few members who posted earlier in this thread. Gordon Craig, way back in post #35 you mentioned that you had a few musicians tunics from the late 80s and that the swallows nests on those tunics were all sewn directly to the tunic. I was wondering if the stitching on your tunics is similar to the way my swallows nests are attached? Mike G., in post #61 you mention that EM/NCO ranks would wear the Reprasentationsschnure on their tunic and Warrant Officer ranks the Achselschnure. I'm certainly not doubting you, but was just curious how you came about that info? I can find no reference to either schnure in the 1986 uniform regs and while going through Klaus Walthers "Uniformeffekten Band II" book in which he speaks about both types of schnure (pages 95-97), he makes no mention of Warrant Officer ranks at all. I only ask because if appropriate, I would like to add an Achselschnure to my tunic, but am hesitant to do so if it is just pure speculation on my part. I wonder if anyone knows of any photographs of a Warrant Officer in parade attire (bandsmen or otherwise) in which they are wearing an Achselschnure. Thanks everyone for their help and info!!
