    SDAG Wismut

Found a couple of Meister der Arbeiter badges recently at a very nice price (helps these days). Thought I'd share.

First, a II Klasse from 1954 ( Bartel 4713b). Note the lack of staatswappen on the flag.

And the back. Note the feint outline produced by some elements on the front during the striking.

On to the Meister der Arbeit, I Klasse of 1974-77 (Bartel 4712g). No inscription below the flag, staatswappen in place, smaller tools (in fact the badge is just a bit smaller). The strange discolouration in the center of the badge is common for badges of this period; wonder if this is caused by the same radiation that has caused genetic mutations among the miners...

And the back; now a pin back instead of a screw back.

          Hi Greg,

Could you wear the badge for a time so we can all see what kind of genetic mutations you are making reference to?

          Just kidding.

          Those are great looking badges.

Thanks for posting them. I have always found it of interest that the miners had parade uniforms issued to them and that they obviously particpated in celebrations and other DDR events. It was obvious the DDR placed a great deal of importance on this industry and the men and women who were associated with and worked in it.

Hello Greg - Thanks for posting your badges. Did you receive the award documents with your badges?

              Michael,

I'm afraid my years in the Navy, advanced years and working in a womens' max security prison have already screwed me up to the extent that further mutation would prove un-noticeable.

              Ralph,

Unfortunately I did not receive docs with the badges, but at less than $25 each I wasn't going to let them get by. A pity though because I believe they are from the same individual. The docs would add alot.

Hey Greg - Thanks for your follow up. In reference to the your post badge in post two. Does the bottom edge of the badge have writing or is it scratches?

                  Ralph,

I'm assuming you are referring to the reverse image of the first badge (my second post). The bottom has a nearly mirror reverse of the SDAG WISMUT on the front.
