NVA veterans in foreign militaries (not Bundeswehr)

After WW2, many Wehrmacht servicemen joined the Bundeswehr and NVA, but some joined other nations' armed forces, like the US Army and French Foreign Legion. Is it heard of that NVA veterans served in foreign armed forces?

Do you only mean former Wehrmacht joining the NVA?
Or do you mean Soldiers, after serving in the NVA, go and join another Army (other than the BW)?

Some persons had been members of other Armies before joining the Volksarmee. Many members of the "Organs" had previously been members of the Red Army during WWII. Of course this was in the beginning of the DDR's life.

            Willie777,

I think they didn´t let him wear his NVA-decorations.
As far as I know, if one join the "Lègion Etrangere" he get a new name and a new biography (if he want), and had to forget his past. The past is without any meaning there. Even the language is not allowed to use, only french!

As a general rule, nobody who joins the FL is allowed to wear nay meadls gained before joining.
The only exemption is for guys who served in the regular French army before. They are stripped of their rank (everyone starts at the bottom) but are allowed to wear their medals earned in the regular French army.

I do know that officers do not start at the bottom but that is a different issue.
