Once again very nice drums.
Do both of the drums have the musical notes on them?
Was that normal or was this drummer "cheating" by not remembering the notes of the Glorious Socialist melodies that inspired pride in the Socialist Fatherland?
Just out of curiosity is there an "Eigentum" sticker on the drums?
Do you know the Baujahr?
Jon.

Hi Jon
To answer your questions :
On the other drum there are the names of a few marches written like '' Garde '' '' Kuross '' '' Torgau '' '' Dessau '' '' York '' etc ( small ) its cheating .
There is no sticker on the kettle drums like '' Eigentum der NVA ''
After the music corps from the NVA / Grenztruppen was disbanded , the bandmembers had the option to buy any insrument they wanted , this guy bought the schellenbaum and the kettle drums , and the trompets where a gift.
My kettle drums are from the fiftees / early sixtees and made from real copper
Most of them are distroyed and used for the copper , only a few have survived .

That sounds like something of interest to be further discussed, if they are willing to talk about it. Were they in some type of neutral military band that loaned members out where needed? Did they have both NVA and Grenztruppen uniforms? I can see lots of different questions being generated here
I, and I'm sure other forum members would be keen to know more about this.
Thanks,
By the way, great kettle drum banners. It's really neat that you actually have examples from both the Army and the Grenztruppen.
Hi Michael
The guy from who I bought the kettle drums was a member of the Grenztruppen ( I also bought from him my Schellenbaum )
He told me that they also played in the musical band from the NVA , I have photos to proof it .
On the Gr******246;sse zapfenstreich der NVA you see this guy with a NVA uniform.
There are two kettle drums with a schellenbaum in the middle , my Kettle drums are the ones on the left from the schellenbaum ( and now in my greedy hands ) the guy from who I bought this stuff is the little guy with a trompet
right next to the man playing the kettle drums ( on the left )
On this Grenztruppen photo its the little guy on the right.
Regards , Johan
