    how to attach Aiguilettes

    Hello everybody,

I´m a newbie both in collecting DDR items as in the forum.
I bought an uniform last year and a silver aiguilette to add it to, but I don´t know if the way I attached it is right or not. Do anybody have a picture of a well attached aiguilette or another who shows how to do it properly?

    thanks in advice,

    Esteban

Here is an example on one of my tunics... gives you an idea even though the tunic is a dwongraded one with duty colar tabs !

        Olivier....
I know it looks VERY nice and I wish it could be done... but I am sure you too know very well that a black collar officer tunic was SADLY never worn with the shoulder chord...
Black collar tunics were phased out from 1974 onwards. The officer shoulder chord (and the Wachregiment one) were only introduced in 1976.
I suppose we all get to play with our NVA uniforms and experiment with ways that were really either Reichswehr or Wehrmacht... They do look nice .

        Esteban,
You don't tell us whether it is an officer shoulder chord, a Wachregiment one or a shooting chord. Here are examples of all of them in sequence. (Photographs taken from Bob Gowen website)
        Officer first.

        Wachregiment

        "Shooting" chord

You are right Matteo, but just could not resist it ...
It is "funny" all the parade stuff was nor reintroduced all at once : 1961 the dagger and I guess same date the feldbinde... so why wait until mid 70s to reintroduce the Achselschnur since troop and NCO cords did exist back in the 60s ???? Really strange !

It´s an officer cord. It seems I did it the right way.

Thanks to all of you very much for your help. Answering Ralph´s question, I just started my collection with this uniform and a pair of common medals (Treue Dienste, Ernst Scheller). My goal is to get a nice dark collar tunic.

Visor cap and ribbon bar sold separately... xD

And the box of the cord (the only one who had the metal tips still on!)

Nothing unusual, but this is the beginning of the beginning.

                  Esteban,

Welcome to the forum and to the mania of collecting DDR uniforms! While the guys have posted several good pictures for you they neglected to tell you how the augillette was actually attached. If an aiguillette was worn with the tunic there would be a small buton sewn to the top of the right shoulder underneath the shoulderboard. Depending on the type of uniform, the other end may be attached to the second button of the tunic or their may be another small button under the lapel of the tunic as in the Gala tunics.

                  Regards,

                  Gordon
