Early dagger?

Recently I was offered a dagger from a person. Not being an expert I couldn't verify how much it could be worth.
The handle was yellowish in colour and I couldn't find a seam on it.
The hanger had three holes in it. The blade was numbered and the number was quite low, 1200-someting. It was also maker marked, looking something like this.



What do you think would be a resonable price (with the belt)?

By the Details given,everything speaks for a early Dagger. Hanger/Handle and Maker Mark. My Dagger has the same Makers Mark like your great done drawing above . And that's also a 100% early Dagger.

Please make sure to post some pics,if you get the Dagger.

not at all,mate I got mine for next to nothing,Because it came from a private houshold.

This auction was for a early dagger(if you read between the lines) and IMO, it sold fo a very very good Price.(for the Buyer)

I'd guess the Price for an early dagger ranges from 150EUR - 250EUR (Condition/Box etc.)

EURO 150.00 to 250.00 for the later issue types is about right. The very early ones often fetch as much as EURO 350.00. But it also is dependent upon whether it is a boxed set that is being offered, or just a dagger. Also, what type of dagger. For example, the Naval "Regular" Officer Dagger is the rarest of the bunch. And the boxed sets themselves differ. Some come with the Hanger, Hanger attachment, and Parade Belt. Some not.

I agree with Michael on ballpark prices but there are a lot of variables as he says. Recently I have seen Naval Oficers cased daggers go for US$400.00. Cased Generals daggers, all branches are priced about the same, go for about US$350.00. The prices of belts also varies but not a great deal. They average around US$20.00 to US$30.00. The daggers that bring the most money are cased daggers where the belt loop, hangers and certificate are still present and in good condition. Generals/Admirals daggers did not come with a guarantee certificate. I have been looking for an early dagger for awhile without any luck.

While we are talking about early DDR daggers, does anyone know what factory used the logo posted above?

As far as I am aware, there was only one manufacturer of Honour Daggers. Produktionsgenossenschaft des Handels (PGH) Messerschmiede Mulhausen in Thuringen. Therefore, this is the company that used the trademark displayed on the daggers.

Gordon has already responded to the question of manufacturer of DDR Honor Daggers, and I have nothing further to add, except that Messerschmiede Meulhausen, Thuringen reportedly used up to 63 subcontractors. So it would seem plausible that there might be subtle variances in the daggers. I know some daggers are serialed numbered and some aren't. And some daggers have the trademark symbol about which this thread was originated, and some don't.

This particular dagger has been offered to me for 310 euros. To me it seems fair. What would you pay for a piece like this? I can probably make him lower the price further, DDR militaria isn't that popular here in Sweden. I meet him at the Stockholm militaria fair and I don't think he sold anything (except the stuff I bought).

You still haven't given any specific as to if it is boxed etc. and that could make the price go up. The price quoted seems fair but if DDR militaria is not sought after in your neighbourhood the price could easily go down. Hard to say what to do if you feel the vendor would sell for less. What I usually do is decided what my top price is and then go to something below that. You don't want to go too much below the offering price or you will offend the vendor. Personally, if this were a boxed complete set I would pay the asking price. I am afraid you will have to decide what to ask. Best way to get the experience of those who have responded to your post is to do it yourself.

Found this auction site.It says the auctions have ended and they have now begun the "After Buy".

The Dagger had no offers and I'd guess it's still for sale.

I agree with you about some of their prices mainly for Flags and banners..but 160EUR for this type of Dagger is a well good price IMO.

They had a boxed Soviet Honor Dagger awarded to General Dickel sold for 580EUR..I think it isn't that much for a dagger with that historical background.
