Sorry to drag a topic up from the depths of the past but...
I have resolved the Naval Infantry combat belt buckle issue!
Looking at some 74 dress reg pictures it shows a grey/steel belt buckle for field dress for the Naval Infantry. I've also seen this in other photos!
A bit of luck a few weeks back on ebay and I now have this item which I don't think anyone else has seen on here...
Additionally it came with the usual rubberised canvas army belt, but the very ends of belt (which are normally painted green) are overpainted naval grey... and it all fits together nicely! I thought when I saw the photo of the item on ebay that it was the usual thrown together piece of junk, but I was interested in the buckle, but now it seems the belt is good too!
Still not seen the later brass ones depicted in the book, but at least now I can say for sure they do exist, the 74 regs book doesnt have a typo!
BTW, talking of belt buckles, does anyone agree that 60's army field belt buckles were the plain steel ones (the same ones later used for work wear only)? I have quite a few late 60's pictures that seem to suggest this might be the case and that the green painted buckles were much later?
I'd really love to get a look at the 1969 dress regulations book
