Nice find! I was struck by how similar it looks to Soviet/Russian titanium helmets. I found this very good article that explains it is no coincidence as the design was a copy:

The article obviously missed the fact that a German firm produced this type in early 1980s. Maybe it was under contract of one of the two he mentioned?

AFAIK these were used by GSG-9 for anti-terrorist situations other than EOD.
