    BW Gas Mask Canister ????

Is this a BW gas mask canister? I have not seen markings like this on any WWII cans and wonder if the 56 is a maker year. Thank you for any help.

      Bob,

The answer is yes. This is the canister for the BW schutzmaske 54. 56 is probably the year of manufacture.

Thank you very much, Gordon. I bought it for the iron based 1944 dated gas mask that was inside.

Is there any value for a well used canister like this?

          Bob,

Not without the gas mask. I've never seen one for sale without the mask so can not give you an estimate of the canisters worth.

          Regards,

          Gordon

Worth $40 to a reenactor, as is.

Would be worth much more for early BW collectors if the cloth cover would be still present. But in this case here as chris said: 40 (I would say not more than 25 because good cost not more) for reenactors.

Yes, it has a NSN on it (NATO Stock No.). I did not know that NSNs existed in those days.
