Gentlemen,
I just found out from the Wikipedia (In German) that Gert Gawellek is the first former NVA officier (East Germany) to be a Brigadegeneral of the Bundewehr. He was an officer of the Kommando Spezialkrafte in Afganistan and was one of the few Germans to win the US Infantry Combat Badge. I think Gawellek was promoted to General in January on 2014. So there are quite a few NVA personal that are still serving the Bundeswehr. By the way,I couldn't spell Afganistan!
Sincerely,
Edward L. Hsiao
