    Gentlemen,

has anybody a hand embroidered / bullion variant of the Verbandsabzeichen of Heimatschutzbrigade 52 (Home Defence Brigade 52) in his collection?

    https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliede...SchBrig_52.gif

I would love to see at least one picture of an existing example here. Thanks in advance for your help!

      Lars,

I've looked through my Verbandsabzeichen and I only have the normal machine one. I would like to see a bullion one too.

      Regards,

      Gordon

Thanks Gordon, it's hard to believe that one single patch wasn't produced as hand embroidered variant. Someday....

Finally I found a picture of a very advanced collection online. Scroll down a bit and you'll see the 52. HSB bullion variant on the second picture.

            Lars,

Thanks for the link. A very interesting collection from a guy who says he doesn't know much about the BW? Some verbandsabzeichen displayed that I have never seen before.

            Regards,

            Gordon

Right, some very rare Verbandsabzeichen and interesting variants included! Althought some of the insignia are "unofficial" pocket patches (Interne Verandsabzeichen) or Tätigkeitsabzeichen etc. A very few aren't even Bundeswehr/Heer but Luftwaffe oder Marine.

Searching the forum I came across this old topic again. Seems to be high time for an update.
A complete set of different officially issued colored Verbandsabzeichen for the Dienstanzug contains of 162 machine woven and 161 hand embroidered patches (we are still waiting for the hand embroidered variant of the lastly issued insignia of the "Ausbildungskommando" ;-).
As you can see on the following pics the missing patches could be added meanwhile. As you'll notice I added some more variations and displayed a selection of machine embroidered patches as well on the last board. Enjoy!

@ Gordon: Nothing! I just sit down and watch the collection growing.
@ Kees: Thanks my friend but too much of honor.

I will post some close ups at the weekend.

As promised I took some pictures by daylight this weekend. For those of you who need the SSI's correct designations, you'll find them here:

I was asked about the "rarity" of these patches. I think most of them can be found more or less easily, especially the woven ones. Several commands and units do exist since 1962, when the SSI were introduced. Many units existed for decades and their patches were produced in large quantities. Usually hand embroidered insignia are harder to find than woven ones. And of course there are some patches which are harder to find because the units existed for a brief time e.g.
Attached a picture of some of theses rarer patches. Top row (f.l.t.r) Panzerregiment 100, Panzerregiment 200 and Panzerregiment 300. These regiments were formed in 1970. The idea of separate armored regiments was cancelled in 1975 so the units existed for a short time only. This set is depicted in original cellophane wrapper.
Bottom row (f.l.t.r): Raketenartillerielehrbataillon 72, a battalion which was designated as demonstration/training unit of the Raketenschule der Artillerie from 1970 to 1981.
Panzerlehrbrigade 9. I have found no evidence yet, if this insignia was worn anyway. Members of the Panzerlehrbrigade 9 wore a SSI with a red shield, crossed swords, pink border and the letter "L" until 2008. Since then the unit's insignia is the patch of the 1. Panzerdivision with white border.
Jägerbrigade 37, 2nd variant. Same here, nobody knows, if this SSI was ever worn. But it does exist, at least as hand embroidered variant.
Many more manufacturers variants and errors out there but I wanted to focus on the officially issued SSI.

                            Camera problems solved. Here's the missing board with Divisions 1 - 10 and Brigades 1 - 30.

You're talking about these two patches, right?

I haven't found a positive ID of these yet. I've seen them offered on ebay as patches for civilian drivers, BMVg (Ministry of Defense) civilian staff , even civilian fire fighters. All I know is that they were sold by the Kleiderkasse in the past.
