    TC 2001 Helmet in wear by the BW

    Gentlemen,

    In the thread started by TJ on the MG4, Tovarish (Phil) published some pictures of this weapon in used in A-stan. One of these pictures showed a soldier wearing a TC 2001 helmet. When I asked some questions about the wear of the TC 2001 Phil reponded that these were mostl private purchase items and suggested that the one in wear looked like a KEJO made helmet. The link he provided to KEJO is below. The chin strap in the photo does match the one on the company site.

    The top picture is the one I am referring to above. The second picture shows another TC 2001 in wear in A-stan.

    The TC 2001 helmet was originally produced by the French firm of Gallet. The firm of MSA purchased Gallet a few years ago and now sells these helmets. They are also available from other retail firms. The TC 2001 was produced specifically to be worn with communications headsets. They are made in two different sizes and are made adjustable to fit the wearers head by using the pad set that comes with the helmet. The helmet has velcro pieces inside that the individual pads fit on. Here are pictures of the TC 2001 helmet and the pad set.

      Also shown in the first picture is what appears to be a communications headset. Actually, it is an "Aktiv Gehörschutz" or in English "Active Hearing protection" device. These devices are also primarily of a private purchase but I have found at least one reference that they may be on limited distribution by the BW. According to the firms that sell this type of device they can be used with (almost-my words) any radio system. The radio interface cable and the PTT (Press-to-Talk) switch must be purchased separately and are expensive. Phil suggested that the one shown in the photo was the MSA device. I found a German language web site, during my research, where BW soldiers were discussing the merits of these devices and which one was the best. Several were mentioned but the Peltor ComTac seemed to be the one most used. It also seems to be the one that closest resembles the one in the photo.
      "Active Hearing Protection" refers to the fact that the device is supposed to reduce the level of noise above 82 dB (decibells), gunshots etc, and amplify weak sounds by a factor of 3.5 times thus enabling the wearer to clearly hear others voices. Here are some photos of the Peltor ComTac device.

        Some of the terms you may find associated with these helmets, and others in the TC 2000 series, are;
        ACH - Advanced Combat Helmet;
        MICH - Modular Integrated Communications Headset (system)

        Regards,

        Gordon

            Good job, Gordon.

            BTW my buddy wore an ACH (TC 2000) during his second deployment in A-Stan. I'll check if can have some photos of him wearing this helmet.

            Two more photos to keep this thread running.

            Cheers,
            Phil

              Phil,

              Thanks for the fine photos and the kind comments. It is your excellent photos of the BW "in the sandbox" that make the research possible.

              Regards,

              Gordon

                    Phil,

                    Thanks for adding the two photos to this thread. I wasn't sure if the guy walking on the left was wearing a TC 2001 or not. Your post here settles that point. I've add both pictures to my file on the TC 2001 helmet.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon

                      Hello all - There has been a couple of interesting threads of BW operating in RC-N Afghanistan. Are the para units only wearing and using these types of equipment and clothing?
                      Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

                        Not only the paras are wearing these types of equipment - also Pz.Gren. and other Infantry units do.

                            I find it a damn ugly helmet. I like the "traditionel" helmets a lot more.
