    Panzerbrigade 2 "Operation Maneuver"

    Hello fellows,

I've recently found this nice documentary about "Operation Maneuver" of the Panzerbrigade 2 in the early 1970s.

Freaking great footage in an awesome quality.
I am pretty sure you'll like it.

Phil - Great high quality videos.

Something for everyone here; a great snap shot of the Bundeswehr in 1972.

Here are some of my initial impressions:

    - Hairnets, hairnets, hairnets! While conducting field re-fueling operations the junior enlisted conscripts with long hair are seen wearing hairnets.

    - It's so unusual now to see people smoking in command centers and offices, at least here in the States.

    - In 1972, it seemed as though the junior enlisted personnel wore their old style stripes sewn to their sleeves with the officers and NCOs wearing both the early (gold "bevo") and later (silver "bevo") shoulder boards. When did shoulder boards become universal?

    - Unlike the scruffy looking privates, the officers and NCOs all have short haircuts and wear their dress side caps (including bullion insignia) with their field uniform. The brown panzer beret is much in evidence as well.

    - The briefing rooms are very Spartan. No computers, keyboards or monitors! Paper maps dominate and typewriters still rule.

All-in-all great video with Marders, Jagdpanzer Kanone 90s, and Leo I's on the move in Baumholder.

Thanks again for posting - TJ
