It saddens me to announce that on Friday, February 18th 2011, 3 service members were KIA
(One solider was killed in the shooting and two died later from the sustained wounds) when an ANA soldier opened fire on them.
      Several soldiers were seriously WIA.
The ANA solider was killed later.
As soon as the DOD has released the names and the units of the fallen - I will post them.

Team - It's always important to remember that what is a hobby to some, is a life or death situation for others.

The glamor of hi-tech armored vehicles and "state of the art" equipment fades when they are surrounded by broken and bloody bodies.

This is the thread where we remember the sacrifices made by the coalition of the willing.

        May they rest in peace.

Thanks for the update in keeping us informed on the latest losses in Afghanistan.

The DOD hasn't released the names of the fallen yet.
The KIA's were a 30 year old Hauptfeldwebel, a 22 year old Stabsgefreiter and a 21 year old Hauptgefreiter.
Enclosed you can find photos of the memorial service in Masar e Sharif and Nürnberg.

I've just found a small article about the KIA HFw. in one of our local news papers.
He is survived by his wife and his one year old daughter.

He's the man shaking hands with the Oberstleutnant.

Phil - I found these memorials both humble and heartwarming.

The Cross in the niche wouldn't seem out of place in c. 1942 Libya. The carving is beautiful. Where some would see only stones and dust, I see love.

An Iron Cross, track pads, and drive sprockets; could there be a more fitting tribute to fallen Panzergrenadiere?

                          All the best - TJ

Team - In light of the extraordinary events of the past 24 hours, I hope we can resolve that our sacred dead did not fall in vain.

Moreover, I sincerely wish and pray that the end of the "long war" is finally in sight, and that our comrades-in-arms will soon be home.
