    BRD Forester Dagger - WOW!

Team - Manion's is currently carrying this exquisite BRD Forester Dagger.

It opened at $50.00 USD yesterday and the current bid is $305.00 USD.

I never knew our staid friends from Bonn would go in for something so flashy. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

    All the best - TJ

I believe this bird is known variously as the Rauhfußhühner, Capercaillie, or Wood Grouse.

A look at the maker mark - "Horster - Solingen".

            The engraving on the blade.

I readily admit my ignornace of this subject area and must rely on Manion's for their description and attribution to the Bundesrepublik.

In any event, this is a wonderful piece.

              TJ,

There were no official daggers for the post war Forestry service. There was no BRD Forestry service. Each state runs their own forestry service. The daggers were worn post war, they were private purchase items, but I have never seen one in wear nor have I seen one for sale. I do have post war tunics that have dagger hangers in them. Thanks for the heads up on the dagger on Manions. I'll have to go look at it and see what they have to say about the one on auction.

              Regards,

              Gordon

You can find these for sale in numerous shops in Munich. Anyone can buy them. Gifts for hunting group members.

                  Gentlemen,

I have a similar dagger in my collection. I bought it to display with my forestry uniforms. Both TR era and post TR era. It cost a lot less than the one on Manions is going for.
I asked a friend who is an advanced TR dagger collector if Horster remained in business after the war. He was not 100% sure but he said he didn't think so. If he is correct, the dagger on Manions is a replica of a TR era forestry dagger being sold as something it is not.

                  Regards,

                  Gordon

Kondor and Gordon - As we saw on the G36 bayonet thread, my ignorance of BRD blades knows no bounds.

As always, thanks for keeping me honest.
