Gentlemen,
While travelling in Australia in the early 80s I bought a G3 type bayonet that I thought was from West Germany. It was unmarked and without a scabbard. It was only many years later that I learned that this bayonet was actually made in Pakistan for their version of the H&K rifle. The URL below will take you to an article on H&K bayonets made available through the Bayonet Collectors Network (BCN) of which I am a member. There are such a huge number of different models of these bayonets produced for the 30 or so countries that adopted the H&K rifle that it is not easy to tell one used by the German armed forces from those of other countries. While that is not the major thrust of this article information contained in it may help forum members decide whether the bayonet they are looking at is one that would fit within their German collecting field or some other area. I have not studied the article in any depth but I hope that it proves interesting and useful to some of you.
Regards,
Gordon
