The pants and jacket seem cut very large. Possibly to wear over the regular uniform. The pants are hel up by suspenders with two tabs, with buttons, at the back and one tab with a button on each side at the front. The back is higher then the front. Probably to allow for the jacket riding up when the wearer baends over. There are a couple of eyelegs with laces on each side for waist adjustment. There are eyelets and laces on the outside of the botton of each leg to allow them to be tightened around the boots. There would not be room to put the pant legs inside the boots. That would defeat part of the purpose of the pants anyway.

The two suspender tabs on the front. It would appear that there were specific suspenders for these pants that did not come with my uniform.

The jacket also uses a combintion of zippers and laces. A large zipper closes the front opening, which you can see in the first foto. And there are zippers on both sleeves.

                  The label in the jacket.
The leather in both pieces of this suit is amazing flexible considering how old it is. There are pictures of the pants with zippers at the bottoms of the legs instead of laces. I suspect they were used before the laces but have no proof of that.

                      Jens,

Thanks for an explanation of the numbering system used in BW boots. Very useful information. Something that I am sure I will find useful in the future.

                      Regards,

                      Gordon

Hi Gordon. If you need some information regarding German Marine / Navy Uniforms just let me know. I've served almost 17 years in the German Navy (Marinefliegergeschwader II).

                        Regards, Matthias

                          Matthias,

Thanks for the offer to help with marine uniforms. It doesn't seem to be a very popular area to collect so there is limited information available from other BW collectors. Your assistance will be very valuable. Shortly I'll be posting some of my marine items and you will be able to fill in the information that I might not be aware of.

                          Regards,

                          Gordon

Later I'll post some Pics of originally packed U-Boat Trousers. Got 4 of them unused in size 50.
The Label say's something with Trousers Leather or so for "Seemännisches Personal"

The BW must have dumped many hundreds (thousands?) of the U-Boat sets on the open market all at once. They are all over eBay and even one major reseller here in the US has them for sale now. They rarely purchase anything in numbers less than hundreds.

                                Gents,
Pretty sure the grey leather jackets/trousers were general issue for all shipboard personnel, not just U-boat crews. Here are some shots from the early 1960s
