    The Leopard 1A4 at speed

Fellow collectors - Attached find a picture of a Leopard 1A4 tank at speed, allegedly snapped by a spy camera (I'm not sure if the camera was wielded by a NATO spy or a WARPAC spy...).

In any event, I'm sure most of you will agree that the Leopard series of tanks are arguably some of the finest armored fighting vehicles ever conceived by man.

I'm typically one of those annoying people that sit in darkened movie theaters grousing out loud over inaccuracies portrayed in war films. But for whatever reason, I could never find fault with Leopards standing in for for their wartime forbearers, the Tiger and Panther, in the classic war film "A Bridge Too Far." It just seemed to work.

    Any other opinions out there?

    Thanks - TJ

I served 12 years within Panzertruppe and have to disagree, sorry.

The Leopard 1 was inferior to the eastern T-62/64 in the same way as the M47/48 was inferior to the T54/55. There are detailed investigations published. The last one i read was in "50 Jahre PzTr der Bundeswehr" from 2006.

It was the intruduction of the Leopard2 (and the M1 Abrams) in late 1979, which gave NATO superiority in tank warefare.
