    Bundeswehr Flight Jackets

Are the grey leather flight jackets still being issued? Most recent photos I've seen show aircrew wearing the US CWU-style jackets.

    Chris,

I don't know for sure but I expect they are no longer worn. There have been a lot of them turn up on the Hungarian surplus market lately.

      Still in use.

Pic from today. CO of AG 51 "Immelmann" holds his speech at the family day, his XO standing on the right:

But the blue-grey coverall and the leather jacket are about to be phased out and traded in for green stuff. Some flight crews already have the green ones.

Nice use of the Cockpit Canopy as the Mic stand

          Ramjet,

Thanks. That certainly answers the question for us.

Thanks Ramjet, would there be many grey-blue Fliegerkombi of the Luftwaffe available in surplus market, in the near future? as they are transitioning to the green one.

            I personally much prefer the grey-blue :-)

I also prefer the grey-blue ... keep mine as long as I can in duty. And will never exchange my main Fliegerkombi as it is one of the few with the D-ring for the life-boat connection in the MiG-29 attached ...

But I really think the grey-blue coveralls will start to become much more available on the surplus and collectors market than in the past.

                Steve,

Interesting comment on the D ring for the MiG 29 life raft. This is something that I have never heard of before. I'd appreciate a picture of your flight suit and the location of the D ring.

                Regards,

                Gordon

The Grey overall and Leather Jacket is better than the green, they should stick to it as not only it is nicer but shows who they are. I admit Green is still nice but Grey sorts the "eyesore" out.

Asides, what jet fighter did the canopy lectern come from?.

The canopy is from a Fiat G.91R/3.

And the Colonel meanwhile also wears green ... talked to him today ...

Sorry, it took a little bit longer, but here are the pics:

The colour of the flight suit ist standard blue-grey, only the lighting is responsible for the red parts.
