One thing is for sure, I now know what happened to him

RIP Peter where ever you are!

    Dear Ian,

Thank you for your kind words.

Peter and I became friends at University (half a lifetime ago). He died in April, 2003, after a five-year battle with cancer. A great loss to our shared hobby.

A lovely man and something of an "expert" on the subject of TR documentation, it is pleasing to hear that his works are "out there" and he has achieved some level of immortality. I had the pleasure of collaborating with him on the preparation of those books and he was kind enough to grant me a by-line in the forward to one of them.

    Best regards,

    Hugh

      Thanks Hugh,

I had always wondered what had happened to Peter.....I need to check my other PC's email and see when our last correspondence was as I forget now.
Uncannily at the time we were discussing a Soldbuch in his book where I had the Beobachterschein and a few other items and how they had been split up to all four corners of the universe!
Not sure which editions of his book I have as he made three I believe?
If you don't mind me asking, how old was Peter when he died?

      Regards,
      Ian

        Hello Ian,

There were Three (3) separate publications:

        A Guide to Wehrpasses (in which I get an honourable mention);
        A Guide to Soldbuchs; and
A Guidebook to Wehrpasses and Solbuchs (a "two for the price of one effort").

I was fortunate enough to be able to collaborate with him on each of these works, both in terms of content and the actual fabric of publication. Indeed, most of the LW-related material illustrated in the books is from my own collection.

I still believe, in terms of scholarship and content, that these little "works" have stood the test of time quite well. This was his area; he knew it very well and he was tireless in his researches on the subject. I lost a great friend and the collecting community, I believe, lost a great resource of knowledge.

Peter was just 50 at the time of his death, too young.

        All the best,

        Hugh
