Postwar German Breadbags!

Anyone collect these WW2-style bags? Sportsman's Guide has an olive green Police(?) version - (see WX2-88808) that has web loops for the canteen instead of leather loops. Era?

I have a maker-marked & 1962 dated medium green coming from Germany. Already have a DDR light gray version said to be Police or KG (unmarked).

Thanks for the alert - I searched the number and got some sort of air hockey set...made a search for it instead. I might get some and see if they have any potential for being DAK breadbags.

Sometimes the SG search function does not work too well - try searching with keyword "german". That worked for me.

A poster at DDR forum suggested these olive bags may be 1980s vintage, but the fittings for the WW2-type canteen have me puzzled if that's the case...

Just In...

Just got a TAN/light olive one with brown leather, including reinforcements to the belt straps. Flap is marked C. RIESE / BERLIN / 2/1962 /BUND / ZB. Bundeswehr issue?

I found the strap inside, matching markings.

I'm puzzled by the fact that this strap is identical (including C. Riese marking)except in color to a Luft blue example i bought as a repo. Is the blue strap also postwar issue, & if so, who used a Luft blue bag at that time? The Luftwaffe?

Sofar as I know, the Berlin police did use a "luftwaffe blue" breadbag for quite some time. The canteens you see with the blue covers were used with this blue bag.

Thanks Dave - i have not seen any of the blue bags, but will now be looking! The "bottle green" bags are also police, & BGS?

I just saw a blue-gray example with black leather binding around flap, & riveted D-rings & canteen loops. Is this a civil version?

I just noticed that what i thought was a lined-out marking on my late olive drab BW bags is actually a Roman numeral 3 followed by a period. Any ideas on what this means?

Also, are there any civilian breadbags being made? I suspected the blue one with edge binding (previous post).

Thanks Theodore. This is a Polizei &/or BGS bag.

Humble items, to be sure, but i think as prices continue to climb on the "classic" militaria, younger &/or less well heeled collectors will be looking for new areas, as they already are. And of course these bags are in a direct line with their 3rd Reich & Imperial predecessors.
