Large 108mm dia., and heavy steel medal. Pierced, with red velvet ribbon and National Fire Brigade brass button suspension.
Stamped inscription: To Ethel for devotion to duty during the great fire 17.4.50 "The Sweep" to hell with the fire, to hell with the smoke, he must have been a rotten bloke.
I suspect the medal has been made with the typical tongue in cheek and black humour often adopted by the emergency services. Possibly to commemorate Ethel dealing with a chimney or kitchen fire at the fire station.
