Special ankle boots, natural brown leather, mint condition, dated 1944

    Hi Guys,

I came across a few paires of british ankle boots.
Natural brown leather construction, nicely marked and dated John WHITE 1944, and also "WD".

Someone told me they were special commando ankle boots…

Can you help me to identifie this type please.

    Regards
    Mathieu

              Salut Mathieu,

"Someone told me they were special commando ankle boots…"
...I can't tell the value but really don't think they were designed for commando's as per regulation they were mainly equipped with Sole Vulcanized boots since 1942 (photo enclosed) really different from these ones and with soles much more adapted to commando task..
The type & position of the nails on yours make me think to "mountain boots" sole but just a thought...

I would have said mountian boots as well, based on the hob nail patterns, but I suppose offciers could have worn them. Was there a separate pattern of hobs for officers?

Why would they put hobnails on the instep of the boots?
