MkII Helmet Liner

Greetings All,

Added a beautiful Irish reissue Mk II to the collection. Thought the liner was a post WWII period addition because of the brown/orange colour of the cross straps. Then I saw it was dated 1941.

Liner is marked:

II
1941
FH is a known WWII maker but cardboard cross straps that are brown/orange colour are something I have never encountered in a WWII helmet. I thought they were only found on Dutch post WWII MkII liners.

Any comments? Did these FH WWII liners come in that brown/orange colour?

One of my Mark II's (a Canadian made helmet dated 1940) has the brown/orange straps you mention.

I've just sold a Coventry fire brigade Brodie with the same type of liner, 1940 dated. I think it's just a low volume manufacturers variant.

I have a 1944 dated one made by BMB, it has similar carboard cross straps. They look original to the helmet.
