Lion pin

Hi,

Does anyone know what this lion pin is? The hardware looks British. It may not be military related - maybe even an older (?what year?) British Lions Rugby Union tour pin? It's ~1 1/2" long, die struck and gilded bronze. It also has a stamped ?serial/?member number.

Any help appreciated.
